Dance
Dance is one of the things we do as Louisianians. We two-step, do the worm, belly dance, pas de deux, sashay, do the bump, Zydeco, waltz, pogo and mosh. And we love to watch well-trained dancers do their thing. Shreveport-Bossier has an enormous amount of dance energy and expertise. Nationally-known dancers such as Ashley Murphey - Dance Theater of Harlem - and Michael Phillips - coast-to-coast competitor in dance - have brought recognition to the region. Their training came from the Louisiana Dance Theater, a young troupe with numerous national honors. Modern dance by Escaped Images, Centenary College, ballet by Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet, and belly dance by the Port Belly Project are emblematic of the range of dance in the area. In Louisiana, we tell each other, Allons danser! That's French for, "Let's dance!"
