South Toledo Bend State Park offers a guided hike on Saturday morning beginning at 8 o'clock to the Bald Eagle's nest. Guests meet the Interpretive Ranger in front of cabin 19 for an hour of hiking that includes information on the history of Toledo Bend Reservoir, tree identification, viewing the Bald Eagle's nest, and enjoying the beauty and sounds of nature.

Because the Bald Eagles often make an appearance, guests are encouraged to bring their cameras and binoculars. Appropriate shoes are also encouraged, for much of the terrain is rugged. The hike is approximately 1 1/2 miles in length.

The park is located in Southern Sabine Parish off La. 191, 16 miles west of Anacoco.

Park open daily from 6 a.m.-10 p.m.

Wit With Words - Freestyle
Freestyling is a popular trend in the music world. More than the traditional musician's solo, freestyle includes narratives characterized by rhythm and rhyme. A freestyle battle of words tests not just rhythm and rhyme, but also use of the English language, coherency, memory, and quickness of brain power. Come and help create your own freestyle!

Steppin' it Out!
Stepping is a form of dance that uses the body as an instrument. Simple motions such as a clap, a stomp, a slide and more can be combined to generate a flow of dance moves of epic proportions. Show up to step out!

February 26, 11 a.m. & 3:30 p.m.
Stop, Pop and Roll With It!
Black American musical performers are constantly introducing new dance moves. We'll take a step back into history and reflect on Black Americans who have contributed to and revolutionized dancing, including moves from the great James Brown, the Moonwalk by Michael Jackson, hip-hop moves from Ginuwine and Usher, 'Lean Wit It Rock Wit It' by Dem Franchize Boyz and others in this dynamic and kinesthetic program. If you think you have a move, then come show us as we discuss the importance of coordination and aerobic exercise, and examine the different body parts and muscles that help you bust a move!

Jerry Lee Lewis will be in concert Valentine's weekend at Sam's Town Casino.

Jerry Lee Lewis is an American original. A song stylist in the great tradition of Al Jolson, Jimmy Rodgers, and Hank Williams. Jerry Lee can take any song, from 'Big-Legged Woman' to 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' and make it his own.

Born September 29, 1935 in Ferriday, Louisiana, Jerry grew up listening to a variety of music - ''The Louisiana Hayride'' and ''Grand Ol' Opry'' broadcasts, and 78 rpm recordings of country singers and blues men.

Silver Screenings, The Robinson Film Center's monthly senior matinee program, presents Billy Wilder's masterpiece Sunset Boulevard, a corrosive black comedy that remains the most memorable assault on the emptiness and vanity of the movie business, stars William Holden as young, down-and-out screenwriter Joe Gillis.

Narrated in flashbacks by the now-deceased scribe, the film unwinds the series of events that left him lying face down in a pool. Unable to sell his most recent script, and in hock up to his eyeballs, Joe stashes his car in the driveway of what appears to be an abandoned mansion on Sunset Boulevard while trying to elude some persistent repo men. Closer inspection reveals the decrepit property to be inhabited by grandiose former silent movie goddess Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson), and her zombie-like manservant Max (Erich von Stroheim).

Darkly funny, this unforgettable film is regarded as one of the greatest film noir of all time.

NOTE: The printer beat-down will now take place before Saturday night's show!

This geeky 1999 office comedy starring Ron Livingston as a corporate Everyman instantly gained cult status for its unabashed caricatures of office personalities, and its theme of corporate sabotage.

Peter Gibbons (Livingston) is a typical middle manager living a mundane life amid a gray maze of cubicles. Everything in his life reeks of mediocrity, from the mid-size car he drives to the chain restaurant, Chotchky's (read: TGI Friday's), where he eats lunch every day. Even his apartment, a cookie-cutter duplex with walls so thin that he can chat with his next-door neighborhood through the plaster, is totally lacking in personality. The company where he works is peppered with ambitionless drones who blindly comply with the condescending requests made of them by their Porsche-driving CEO (Gary Cole).

Then one day, Gibbons snaps. As a team of experts is brought in to enact large-scale layoffs, Gibbons simply stops trying and adopts an attitude of total disinterest. That is, he's only interested in dating the blond waitress (Jennifer Anniston) at the local restaurant, and putting in place a devilish scheme for some corporate payback.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. On March 20, 2010, beginning at 7p.m., Sci-Port will pull out all of the stops for our biennial Mad Scientist Ball, one of the maddest events this town has ever seen.

Our scheming mad scientists will guide revelers through madhouse eccentricities, and the customs and cultures from all over this mad world. Lab assistants are concocting potions and recipes that are certain to entice madness throughout the night.

The music to our madness will be hard to resist, as will the urge to spend money like mad at our silent auction. Additionally, in homage to the film from which we borrowed our theme, guests can participate in a madcap pursuit of cash and prizes!

One would have to be mad to miss this event, and we would have to be, well, mad to ask you to sponsor it in today's maddening times. . . so we're not.

Instead of requesting sponsorships for a party, we would like to ask that our donors sponsor an upcoming exhibition or IMAX film. (Sponsors, help us choose the exhibit or film!) Additionally, contributors have the option of supporting Sci-Port's statewide traveling Science Carnival Outreach, field trips for students that incorporate programs to meet grade level expectations, as well as hands-on demonstrations to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages.

A table to the ball, combined with other benefits, will naturally be included with the sponsorship. After all, there is a method to our madness.

The success of Sci-Port would not be possible without our generous donors, and we would like to thank you for your consideration of a sponsorship. It means the (mad) world to us.

Let the madness begin!

If you would like to become a sponsor for the ball, or for more information, please contact Jennifer McMenamin at (318) 424-8673 or jmcmen@sciport.org.

The comedy Leading Ladies, by Ken Ludwig, will be directed by Bossie Parish Community College's Dr. Ray Scott Crawford.

Two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing ''Scenes from Shakespeare'' on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA, is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is, when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren't nephews, but nieces.

Romantic entanglements abound, especially when Leo falls head-over-petticoat in love with the old lady's vivacious niece, Meg, who's engaged to the local minister. Meg knows that there's a wide world out there, but it's not until she meets ''Maxine and Stephanie'' that she finally gets a taste of it.

Performances for this hilarious new comedy at the BPCC Performing Arts Theatre are March 26, 27, 28, April 1, 2, 3, 4 at 7:30 p.m., and March 29, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. Reserved Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, military, non-BPCC students and children. The box office will open on Monday, March 23, 2008, at 10:00 a.m.
